Why this petition matters

Over the years the demand for Wheel-Trans service and specialized transit across the GTA has surged and the need for such service will only rise with the aging demographics of our population. While so many rely on Wheel-Trans and other similar services across our Region, these services are not integrated and therefore limit people’s ability to travel around the GTA. For many people who rely on specialized transit service, their needs are not bound by municipal boundaries or local transit services.

To be compliant with the Accessibility ODA and help thousands of Ontarians to connect with services, employment, and education, it is essential that specialized transit across the GTA be better coordinated and integrated.

As co-chairs of ReStart Mobility (www.restartmobility.ca), Edward Rice and Louise Russo are frequent Wheel-Trans users, and have experienced first-hand transportation restrictions as a result of services not being integrated. ReStart Mobility is an organization with the goal of providing access to transportation for all disabled Ontarians. ReStart Mobility along with its co-chairs are asking the Province of Ontario and GTA to work together to create an integrated framework for seamless transportation across the GTA for people with disabilities.
