COVID-19 continues to present new challenges. Novel variants keep emerging with unpredictable consequences resulting from inequitable access to vaccines.

Nigeria set an ambitious goal of vaccinating 40% of its over 200 million people before the end of 2021, and 70% by the end of 2022.

However, as at August 3rd 2022, only 25% of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated, with only 3 states - Nasarawa, Jigawa and Kano having a vaccination coverage of 50%.

When a significant percentage of Nigeria's population remain unvaccinated because of unfair and bias access to vaccines by eligible individuals, it poses a threat to the country's chances of herd immunity and recovery.
