California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) TO REMAIN ONLINE FOR SPRING 2022
Why this petition matters
Keep CSUCI Fully Virtual. Prioritize COVID safety, public health, and disability justice at CSUCI for the entire Spring 2022 semester to protect immunocompromised students & faculty.
It truly is not fair. The university should open fully when starting a full academic year, meaning NEXT FALL 2022. Not now. We deserve SAFETY AND ACCOMMODATION! With COVID cases rising and hospitals filling up the university needs to prioritize our safety. CSUCI shouldn’t put us at risk.
As many classes as possible must be conducted remotely / virtually for the Spring 2022 semester, in order to:
- Prioritize immunocompromised students, faculty, & community members
- Protect us from infection & Long COVID via asymptomatic & breakthrough cases
- Center working-class, disabled, trans, queer, BIPOC who have been failed by the US government
With more virtual classes, campus housing must still stay open, especially for those who do not have safe/stable housing elsewhere at the moment. Remote learning is difficult for those with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. So, accommodations should be given with the least resistance by faculty & DASS, and CAPS should be more resourced.
Transitioning to an in-person learning environment in this manner is DANGEROUS and puts the students’ health and academic performance at RISK.
