If you were a teacher, how would you feel knowing that part of your retirement account helped fund the company that produced the weapon used at Sandy Hook? Collectively, through their retirement funds, California public school teachers own 6% of the maker of .223 Bushmaster rifles, like the one used last Friday to murder 20 first graders and seven adults in Newtown, Connecticut. When these teachers signed up for their retirement accounts, they opted in to a system that invests on their behalf through different funds and asset managers. Now, we all have the opportunity to tell these managers that teachers' retirement funds have no business being invested in weapons. Less money for weapons manufacturers --> less weapons --> less shooting massacres.
