OPEN LETTER TO MY FELLOW CALIFORNIA CANDIDATES
From Pastor H. Fuji Shioura

As the sole self-funded Independent candidate running for California Governor, what I say and do will have a direct effect on our 2018 California Gubernatorial election. I am working hard to be our next California Governor for many important reasons. As a committed Christian, inner-city educator, proud Californian and avant-garde technologist disruptor just to name a few. Like you, I genuinely desire a bold, new and honest government that is accessible, transparent and accountable to all Californians. We all deserve and need a safe, fast and efficient public transportation system that sustain jobs and expand opportunities for commerce. Together I know we all will be in favor to work hard to make our education system the most modern, fair and successful in the world. We will fight hard to make all Californians tax dollars used in the best interest of us all.

As you and I can see, there is so much work ahead for all of us. As our voters, you and I can envision a more prosperous future for California in this upcoming Gubernatorial Election, that is all inclusive. How we attain our goals to get there to accomplish our hopes and expectations, will differ greatly from candidate to candidate, from voter to voter. This is a political certainty that is a fact for all candidates, and voters alike. To reiterate, such questions such as to increase taxes or not to, to allow more charter schools for parental choice or not to, and so and so on. However, there are times when political reality is overshadowed by real-world events that call upon our better angels to come forward to speak out. To publicly speak out not for personal political gain or campaign contributions for more money, but for moral and ethical reasons that go far and beyond our 2018 California gubernatorial election.

The real-world events that are transpiring as we each campaign to win the 2018 Governor Election, has a name and place that can be defined, understood and embraced if we just take a few minutes and open our hearts to a higher calling. This is why you and I are running for California Governor. As an Independent, I am asking for a moment of your time, your support as a Californian, parent, and to believe in a higher calling to listen to our better angels that I know you and I have.

The name and place of these real-world events are named Kurdistan. It is a land area approximately located nearby or in, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The Kurds have their distinct language, culture and history apart from Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The people of Kurdistan are not Arabs, Turks nor Iranians. This is one reason why mass genocides of the people Kurdistan have occurred. The more well-known and internationally recognized genocide of the Kurds occurred on March 16th, 1988, in the Kurdish city of Halabja in Southern Kurdistan. The genocide was part of the Al-Anfal Campaign in northern Iraq, as well as part of the Iraqi attempt to repel the Iranian Operation Zafar 7. The carefully premeditated and deliberately calculated genocide took place 48 hours after the fall of the town to the Iranian army. In other words, innocent noncombatants like women, children and the elderly were selectively intentional, carefully premediated and deliberately targeted for mass genocide by the Iraqi military command. The Halabja massacre still remains the largest chemical weapons attack directed against a civilian-populated area in history Thousands more died of complications, diseases, and birth defects in the years after the massacre.

As a future Governor of the most influential, populous and wealthiest state in the United States, I feel that it is our moral duty to address such high crimes against humanity. And yes, some of us are running for Governor of California in 2018 because we aspire to the elected office of the United States Presidency or Vice Presidency in 2020, 2024 or later. This is a political reality also, that some of us will and will not admit publicly. With that political reality said, let us review why a candidate for California Governor should be concerned with the people of Kurdistan.

There are some states with only a single Representative for our United States Congress: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming. We in California have 53 Representatives for our US Congress! We have the most Electoral votes, 53 to be exact compared to New York’s 27. By some estimates, California would be the 6th largest economy globally, if we were a separate nation apart from the USA. We would also be the 35th most populous nation in the world, larger than some European countries. Our California economy is immense, enough to be comparable to some of the largest economies of some nations. By some GSP (gross state product) estimates and GDP (gross domestic product) approximations, as of 2016, our California gross state product is about $2.514 trillion; Meaning California is directly responsible for about 13.9 percent of our United States' estimated $18.1 trillion gross domestic product. In many ways, as we can see, California is a country upon ourselves.

Like I mentioned above, as candidates running for the most powerful, influential and highest elected office in California, we will often at times agree and disagree on important issues like our education system, environment, economy and a whole host of other issues that are a near and dear to all of us. As a potential Governor of one of, if not the most influential state in the United States, it is incumbent upon all of us as Americans and Californians, regardless of political party or beliefs, to unite in solidarity when historic moments arise such as Kurdistan. As a Governor, we directly work with our elected Congress members to influence policy and legislation in Washing DC.

Like you, I feel we have an obligation based on our ideals on humanity to our voters to leave a more tolerant, inclusive and prosperous California for one and all. Voicing your support for an independent and sovereign Kurdistan will help make us all safer, inclusive and prosperous in California. In an ever more interconnected world, historic world events like standing up for Kurdistan directly affects all of here in California and the United States as a whole. Having a more peaceful, stable and prosperous Middle East is in everyone’s best interest. The soldiers, in particular, the Kurdish women defense units of Rojava (present day northern Syria, soon to be western Kurdistan) have successfully fought the Islamic State at great cost. Some of these brave Kurdish women and girls fighting now were former captives and rape victims of the Islamic State. Matter-of-fact, some of the women and girls fighting in Rojava are Yazidis and Christians refugees, fighting as one. The YPJ or Women Defense Units consist entirely of females. The Women defense Units fighting the Islamic State is a women empowerment movement like no other in history.

The children, mothers, and people of Kurdistan now more than ever passionately desire and need our voice to say yes to a sovereign and independent Kurdistan. When you and I say yes to Kurdistan we are saying yes to much more than a legally acknowledged right to self-determination of the people of Kurdistan. Saying yes also means yes to unconditional gender equality at home, work and school. Saying yes to genuine religious tolerance for all faiths. Yes, to universal suffrage, yes to an independent judiciary, yes to unconditional freedom of the press.

I am respectfully asking with all my heart for fellow candidates for our California Governor Election in 2018, to yes to a sovereign and independent Kurdistan.  If you, my fellow candidates, sincerely believe in these core ideals of gender equality, women empowerment, voting rights, press freedom and an independent judiciary, then the peoples of Kurdistan mirrors what you and I cherish and believe as Californians.

Say yes by signing the petition today.

Thank you all for running for California Governor in 2018 to make our California the best place to live, work and study. God Bless You All and God Bless America!

Sincerely,
Independent Candidate H. Fuji Shioura
