Every developed country in the world is committed to universal healthcare, except the US- 30 million people are without health care in this country. 44 million more have bare-bones coverage that leaves them worried about covering additional costs.

For many in the US, loss of a job means loss of health care- nearly 28 million Americans were already without health care in 2018, job losses as a result of Covid -19 ensure that that number will go up.

For those without coverage, the cost of health care is so prohibitive that even life-threatening illnesses go unchecked because people fear not being able to pay their medical bills.

From a purely economic perspective, delay of treatment for illness can have negative effects like reduced productivity in the workplace, and a greater collective financial burden due to increased healthcare.

This issue potentially affects every employment-age American (age 19-64)- regardless of their health history. A serious illness or injury can happen an any time, and medical bills can drive individuals to financial ruin.

It is up to Americans to push for this needed change, letting their legislators know that this issue is important to them.
