We are currently American dental students at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu" of the Republic of Moldova (“Moldova”). We applied and were accepted to the Moldova foreign dental school in 2019, and are scheduled to graduate in June 2024, after completing the University’s 5-year dental program.

It has been our dream to become a dentist and return to California to provide dental care to our community. Moldova is one of two foreign dental schools accredited by the Dental Board of California. As such, at Moldova we are being provided with the quality education and training so that upon graduation, we can pass the required California examinations.

Our dream, however, may no longer be attainable because we have been informed that Moldova may lose its California accreditation in December 2023. We are confused and disappointed that the Dental Board of California sponsored legislation (AB 1519, Low) that terminates Moldova’s California accreditation in 2023, and in the process jeopardizes our life-long dream of becoming a dentist. The rules have changed in the middle of an accredited program to which we have dedicated 2 years of our hard work. This situation has created tremendous anxiety for us and our parents.

The University has informed us, and our classmates, that it is attempting to obtain an extension through the Legislature. We strongly urge you to PLEASE pass the legislation that will extend the California accreditation for the currently enrolled Moldova foreign dental school. This extension will allow all of us to complete the program as planned.

Respectfully,

Graduating class of June 2024
