Start Schools Later, Make Students Greater

Middle and high school students need school to start later in the morning. For many students' biological clocks, a 7:30 or 8:00 am start time drastically hurts their ability to perform during the rest of the day. High school students are taking free periods during their first period classes so they can sleep in, and those who do have a scheduled first period class often skip class to get the sleep they need. Research has shown that teenagers naturally sleep and wake up later, so we need to take the next step in helping our future scientists, politicians, and teachers access the quality education they deserve. Piloting later school start times (schools can start no earlier than 8:30am) for middle and high schools will allow us to determine if extra time in the morning will allow students to perform better during the day and achieve greater success and health in the long run.
