I am a concerned parent who feels we should do more to keep our kids safe from school shootings.

Violence from active shooters is rapidly increasing in epidemic proportions. Although the news only reports about the mass shootings, in reality, school shootings occur every single week in the United States.  While much attention has been focused on necessary gun control, legislation for school safety has been largely overlooked.

Earthquake and fire drills are mandatory, but our children are not dying from earthquakes and school fires.  In fact, no children have been killed in a school fire in the United States since 1958, when a fire at Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago killed 92 students and 3 nuns. Within one year of that fire, new fire safety regulations were enacted nationwide. 

Our children are dying from school shootings, not earthquakes and fires, yet still there are no laws mandating and regulating lockdown drills.

Lockdown drills should be mandatory for all schools and need to be regulated throughout the State of California, in accordance with standard monthly fire drills.

Please help save lives by signing this petition.  We need to send a clear message to our California State Legislators that we need a bill passed immediately requiring mandatory lockdown drills.
