Make foreign language not an actual graduation requirement in high-school

Foreign language should be taught as an elective. It shouldn’t be required for high-school graduation, it’s a skill, a hobby to be ultimately taught on the side. It’s also ultimately obsolete in today’s society with translators and such. Foreign language only adds unnecessary stress to high-school students. Universal communication can be achieved virtually with great ease, versus the tedious process of mastering a new language. Overall, I personally believe foreign language shouldn’t be required to graduate. Learning a secondary language is proven to cause anxiety especially that late into a persons life (14,15 years old). According to a paper done by Ying Zheng, from the Facility of Education at Queen’s University, it states- “Second/foreign language learning can sometimes be a traumatic experience for many learners. The number of students who report that they are anxious language learners is astonishing. According to Worde (1998), one third to one half of students examined reported experiencing debilitating levels of language anxiety.”-(Zheng). I’m not personally saying foreign language shouldn’t be taught. I do believe it should be taught, if a student wants to learn it of course. But, I do indefinitely believe it shouldn’t be enforced, required, or be a mandatory aspect in high-school graduation.
