Kristy Mahakian started this petition to California School Employees Association

The William S Hart Union High School District unilaterally eliminated twenty-one (21) classified positions. Often overlooked and underappreciated the District is balancing the budget on the backs of classified employees who perform essential work that directly impacts the well-being and educational preparedness of students.

Not only will these hard-working employees experience a devastating financial hardship, but the positions they occupy are vital to ensuring crucial services and safety of the students and families that depend on the District to educate and protect their children.

Specifically, the loss of these jobs will result in the removal of 6 campus supervisors, which will leave the campuses woefully understaffed resulting in risk to student safety. 4 less groundskeepers and maintenance personnel will mean unsanitary and hazardous conditions to become more prevalent. (Most notably, these 10 positions are the same classifications that were first responders at the Saugus High school shooting). Furthermore, the loss of an electrician, plumber, and carpenter would mean that the needed repairs to buildings would go unfulfilled, making the facilities that your children sit and learn in unsafe. Finally, 7 less office workers will cause even more backlog in receiving and distributing critical information. This will mean longer wait times for parents seeking assistance for their children maneuvering through the changes in school attendance and policies, especially during COVID.

We want to preserve these essential services and maintain the extraordinary men and women who provide them. On August 30th these layoffs will be final. There is still time to prevent the layoffs and with your signature, we will. Please sign this petition and stand in solidarity with classified employees.
