REPEAL THE NEW CALIFORNIA INDIVIDUAL HEALTHCARE MANDATE
REPEAL THE NEW CALIFORNIA INDIVIDUAL HEALTHCARE MANDATE
Our healthcare system is broken, a fact reflected in the cost of insurance plans. Compared to every other industrialized nation, we spend twice as much for half the benefits as others do.
The ACA has failed to address the fundamental problems contributing to this situation, instead opting to subsidize insurance for low income citizens at the expense of middle class tax payers. That federal mandate was declared unconstitutional, but now California’s ACA has adopted a similar requirement.
The least expensive plan from KAISER PERMENENTE for a non-working spouse amounts to $13,000/year out-of-pocket expense before limited benefits are available, an unreasonable burden for anyone earning over the minimum income level making one eligible for subsidies.
As well intentioned as the ACA may be, mandating participation in a fundamentally flawed system unfairly penalizes a significant portion of our hard-working middle class population. Federal courts recognized this, now the State of California should as well.
