Climate Change is affecting the entire planet and every living thing on it at an alarmingly increasing rate. This is causing California to experience more severe and frequent droughts, which is leaving the state with less water to use.

Aside from the basic need for water for every person in this state, it is needed largely for the agriculture industry. With less water to manage every year, and seemingly more things to manage every year, we are pulling more from ground water and not replacing it. This could have big ecological effects and more that is exactly known right now.

One of the main issues with our water system is how much energy it uses to transport, treat, heat and cool, and do what we need with it. At the moment, California generates a lot of renewable energy, but still pulls around 30% of its annual energy used from other states. Most of this energy is from coal plants and other fossil fuels, which is mainly used on our large water system. What we use to power our whole water system is the direct cause of the droughts and less precipitation.

If we want to take a step at managing California's water better and fight climate change at the same time, all we have to do is invest and develop more renewable energy plants. California has lots of solar, wind, and geothermal potential that are just beginning to get tapped into. The state doesn't have major intentions to invest more into hydroelectricity because of the droughts, so instead they should invest in the other types of renewables, and while they're at it remove dams and reservoirs that are only causing more harm.

If the State of California wants to ensure everyone has access to the water they need, they have to start fighting the source of the problem. This would ultimately combat multiple climate issues at once, create millions of jobs, and make water more secure for everyone. What we are asking the State of California is to invest more into renewables, especially to replace all the energy they buy from out of state, to make our water system clean and much more manageable.
