The DTSC has abandoned parents as they fight to protect their children from cancer.
0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000.
My daughter is one of the fifty children with cancer who live within 20 miles of the Santa Susana Field Lab, one of the worst nuclear meltdowns in America. The SSFL remains contaminated with dangerous radionuclides and carcinogenic chemicals that can cause harm to human health after a single, short-term exposure.
California's Department of Toxic Substance Control, the state agency meant to help us, has abandoned us. They recently released a draft Environmental Impact Report for the site cleanup that proposes to leave vast amounts of the radioactive and carcinogenic waste on site, nearly thirty times less protective than their own official residential cleanup levels. Their report coincides with the financial interests of Boeing, who primarily owns the site, but it will harm residents for generations.
They know our community has above average pediatric cancer rates. They know we have a 20% higher invasive breast cancer rate than the rest of California. They know that residents who lived within two miles of the site had a 60% higher cancer rate. They promised seven years ago that the cleanup would be done by 2017 but they haven't even begun. They know our children are sick and dying, they just don't care. They care about stockholders and profits more.
If Governor Brown of California doesn't make the Department of Toxic Substances protect residents then generations of our children will continue to have cancer.
We need #1millionparents to help us protect our children from cancer. Please stand shoulder to shoulder with us as we ask Governor Brown to stop the DTSC and to completely and safely clean the Santa Susana Field Lab.

#1millionparents near and far want ALL of the Santa Susana Field Lab's Toxic and Nuclear Waste cleaned now! The radiation and carcinogenic chemicals are giving our children cancer, as well as many adults, in our community.
The California Department of Toxic Substance Control must hold the polluters, the Department of Energy, Boeing and NASA accountable for the safest and most comprehensive cleanup to "background" levels.
The DTSC cares more about the polluters than they do our community. They know how many of us have had cancer. They know fifty of our children are fighting cancer today. They know and they've done nothing to push back on the polluters or enforce the legally binding AOC agreements to have a 100% complete cleanup done by this summer, in 2017.
The DTSC's draft Environmental Impact Report for the Santa Susana Field Laboratory cleanup breaks years of promises that the radioactive and toxic chemical contamination would be completely cleaned up. Instead, it proposes to leave vast amounts of plutonium, strontium-90, cesium-137, perchlorate, PCBs, volatile organic compounds, dioxins, and heavy metals, where they could continue to migrate offsite and place neighboring communities at risk.
The DTSC must uphold the AOC cleanup agreements and demand that Boeing, NASA and the Department of Energy cleanup ALL of the contamination on their property!
Our children are getting cancer. We can't fight these powerful and wealthy corporations on our own. Please get involved and enforce a safe and 100% complete cleanup.
