Safe Trails For Horses and Hikers Lake Oroville

The trails surrounding Lake Oroville currently offer multiuse and equestrian/hiker trails and a wonderful horse camp.
As a result of the 2017 Oroville Dam spillway incident, which has had an impact on all who use the trails, there has been a request by a local bicycle group to convert sections of trail from equestrian/hiker designation to a multiuse designation.
While some areas are appropriate for multiuse, it is our strong position rider and hiker safety would be in jeopardy.
As such, we the undersigned strongly support the retention of the hiking/equestrian user designations on the following sections of the Lake Oroville trail system.
- The lower section of the Dan Bebe Trail to include from Lakeland Trailhead parking to the Oro Dam Blvd. East road crossing. (includes Sycamore Hill.)
- The Loafer Loop/Roy Rogers Trail surrounding the Horse Camp to Brooks Orchard
