Protect California Workers and Oppose California Bill AB5
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
Legislation pending before the California legislature (AB 5) would prohibit businesses from hiring new employees or using staffing firms’ temporary workers and direct hire candidates (as well as workers from other third parties) unless such businesses first offer additional work to their existing nonexempt employees. This bill would have a negative impact on both businesses and workers!
This legislation would deny thousands of jobs to temporary and contract workers—most of whom work full-time workweeks, and enjoy the flexibility that temporary work offers. These workers would be denied both the opportunity to work and a “bridge” that often leads to permanent employment.
This legislation would deny California businesses the flexibility to efficiently meet changes in demand, address staff shortages, perform non-core functions, or screen employees for permanent employment. Businesses would have to offer additional work to the nonexempt workers currently employed (but would not have to offer overtime hours) and wait to hear back before hiring new employees or enlisting the aid of a staffing firm. Such process is time-consuming, inefficient, and totally unnecessary.
That is why I am asking you to sign this electronic petition directed to the California Assembly Labor Committee, today. We will send an email letter on your behalf explaining how this bill would destroy jobs and hurt business, and urge them to oppose AB 5. A link to the sample letter is provided below.
I hope you will take this important and immediate step to protect California workers and businesses. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
