We are in a global emergency and everyone is staying home. This means students cannot go to school and are therefore receiving online education. Some teachers have decided that because students are staying home, they have all the time in the world to do schoolwork. Little do they know, the amount of work they are offloading on students is very stressful; they may have the time to do the work but sometimes this can cause them to panic. They aren’t adults yet, they shouldn’t have to be this  anxious about life yet. They should live their lives as children until their time to be adults is here. We didn’t want to go too big at first, so we are just starting with the Calgary public school system. There are other methods of learning than cramming knowledge into student minds or tests. The whole purpose is to understand, and it’s difficult to understand if you are under pressure and stress. Giving students vague answers about when they will need the information they are being given also will not help them. We are not trying to eliminate all/most work, because students will struggle in life if they don’t know how to do work. But mental health is suite as important as education and physical health. Do you want to have mental breakdowns or panic attacks about school? These people are the future. They should be well educated and healthy mentally because it will come back if they aren’t. Having more effective lessons, explanations and assignments works better than more assignments; and it gives more time to learn more topics. This by no means is to slam the education system; we respect it fully. But we just think that the students should be considered.
