Upper Stoodley Residents' Association started this petition to Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council and

Calderdale Council is currently considering measures to reduce its costs.  One of the measures being considered would involve considerable changes to the current collection of waste and recycling, and to the opening hours of Eastwood Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

Measures being considered include:

  • Reducing waste collections to every three weeks
  • Reducing recycling collections to every two weeks
  • Withdrawal of the Land Rover service (which serves very rural properties including in our own area) and asking householders to take their waste and recycling to collection points on main roads
  • Reduction in opening hours at Eastwood HWRC 2.

The signatories to this petition believe that these measures would have a highly detrimental effect on the people and environment of the Upper Stoodley area (part of Calder Ward):

  • The collection reductions and the reduced opening hours of the HWRC will increase fly tipping in our area and across the borough
  • There will be a significant risk to health and wellbeing by obliging some older and disabled householders to transport their waste and recycling over considerable distances (c 1km) to the nearest collection points
  • There will be a significant build up a waste and recycling which will have a detrimental affect on the visual amenity which will have a significant negative impact on this area of natural beauty and local heritage

We call upon Calderdale MBC to withdraw these proposals completely.
