Leslie Falqueza-Dean started this petition to Calatravanhon

This is created to raise awareness against extraction of gravel and sand along Bañadero river that stretches from the bridge up to Barangay Pagsangahan via Sitio Malamig. The quarry and removal of said minerals inflected serious social and environmental impacts in the villages in the banks of the river. The livelihood seriously impacted due to the diversion of the river and serious impact on orchards cultivation and other agricultural crops. As a result of quarrying, river response to the removal of sand & gravel by causing bed degradation, channel diversions and bank erosions (photos attached). The removal of sands and gravel from the rivers and estuaries induces channel changes which extend significantly beyond the excavated area. These channel changes, in turn, increase velocity and channel capacity which results in changes in flood and tidal levels. Following repeated tropical cyclones for long time, landslide happened and enormous volumes of sand were eroded.
Finally, extraction changes directly and indirectly water quality and boundary sediment size.
Iam challenging the respective authorities to impose penalties that address the full range of environmental impacts by cancelling DENR Permits to operate and future permit applications. We strongly appeal to my kasimanwa ka batang Bañadero to join us in this crusade against the extraction of gravel and sand along BAÑADERO RIVER before our river will be totally denuded. ATTENTION ROMBLON MINING AND REGULATORY BOARD (DENR)
