Hello to everyone My name is Saminah Haddad I am a student athlete currently majoring in Sociology. I started this petition because I live on campus ( SOUTH VILLAGE TOWERS) where the meal plan is MANDATORY and I believe that it should be optional due to the fact that it lacks nutrition, flavor, and is usually undercooked/overcooked. With that being said they also do not have a a separate ( Kosher) Kitchen for people who have dietary restrictions and religious beliefs. During the 2021 Fall semester many students and myself fell sick from some of the food served here. I’ve spoken to many students were we all can relate that the meal plan is not worth $2000 and should be optional due to the fact that they do not provide nutritional meals and our money should go to something that we enjoy. I’ve reached out to housing staff and kitchen staff on multiple occasions and there has yet to be a change. The only thing that the staff says is that “ ITS MANDATORY AND THEIR IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT”. I believe that if that’s the case they should ask students what we like and hire licensed chefs instead of temp workers through instawork. Instawork is a third party, where they do not require background checks or check for any criminal activity when hired. Everyday meals are prepared differently. The dinning hall is also closed for holidays, and long breaks which means students with no cars are required to DoorDash food if unable to cook.My goal here is to ensure we get better meals at all times of the day and for meal plan to be optional to

students since we have a community kitchen that we are able to use.  Thank you for reading and sharing  !!!
