Why this petition matters

Started by D. Allen

As Cal Poly Humboldt’s student body grows, you’d assume our campus facilities will as well, but that is not the case; this semester, Fall 2022, that has become egregiously apparent. With only 3 of 5 parking lots being the most accessible for the entire student body, grossly oversold parking permits, and COMPLETELY full parking lots, as well as street parking in a half mile radius, what shall the students of Cal Poly Humboldt do? Why not park at the convenient parking meters on campus? Well, it states on the parking webpage that a parking permit is not valid at any campus meter, but if you spent $300+ on your permit and can’t hike 2 miles to class, another $6 at the meter is your only solution, unless you’d prefer a $40 parking ticket for parking anywhere else on campus. It is clear President Jackson didn’t have your best interest in mind when allowing more permits to be sold than parking accommodations available; so it seems the driving student body is at an impasse.

The solution I am suggesting in this petition is the Faculty and Staff Lot 10 be temporarily relinquished to the student body for the 2022-2023 school year as surplus parking, as well as, allowing those with parking permits to park at meters without penalty, to help accommodate those with parking permits. I don’t intend on penalizing any faculty or staff as this is just as much an issue for them but this particular lot seems to remain more empty than any other Faculty and Staff Lot. I urge President Jackson to agree to a solution for the student body he claims to care about so deeply about.
