Read, Sign, Share, Advocate: Firefighters of Cal Fire are in a state of Crisis due to: Salaries lag approximately 80%, 30% longer work hours, and insufficient (66%) disability benefits. This egregious treatment of Cal Fire Firefighters must cease.  http://www.calhr.ca.gov/Documents/2014-California-Firefighter-Total-Compensation-Survey.pdf

Why should Cal Fire Firefighters receive pay parity and 100% disability benefits; what service do they provide contract cities, contract counties, and the state of California?

Cal Fire firefighters, public servants, emergency responders, should receive pay parity consistent with neighboring fire departments in California since their job duties are synonymous. Cal Fire firefighters should receive wages based on industry standards, work hours consistent with industry standards, and receive sufficient disability/injury illness benefits-consistent with industry standards.

Currently, Cal Fire firefighters, including those who serve Riverside County, are paid a wage consistent with California's minimum wage. Public safety, firefighters, serve and protect our communities which is an enormous responsibility that requires unique skills and abilities. First responders, firefighters, put the lives and needs of others before their own- "risk a life, to save a life". They respond to horrific emergencies, see and hear living nightmares, tend to victims in auto accidents, run into structure fires to save lives and property. They are often sleep deprived, subjected to toxic-harmful chemicals, and seriously stressed. In order to compensate them fairly, based on industry standards, Cal Fire firefighters must receive: a substantial raise in pay, coupled with work week/hours similar to surrounding agencies, and increased injury illness benefits. Not only will fair compensation improve the lives of firefighters and their families, but it will encourage firefighters to continue their service with Cal Fire- many in Riverside County; rather than transferring to other departments.

As a spouse of a firefighter, and mother of children who reside in Riverside county, it is important to me that if/when I have an emergency, a qualified, skilled, experienced, capable firefighter responds to my call. If Cal Fire continues to neglect their responsibility to provide working conditions consistent with industry standards, not only will this negatively impact firefighters but our communities will suffer as well. Cal Fire firefighters are experiencing a state of emergency in regards to unequal pay, longer work hours, and insufficient disability/injury illness benefits.
