We urge Cal Cunningham to pledge to step aside if (and it's a big if) he wins the US Senate race for North Carolina.  By doing so, Mr Cunningham would demonstrate that he is fully responsible for his actions and wants to do something extraordinary to win back the trust of the voters of North Carolina.  By stepping aside, Mr Cunningham would give the Democratic governor the opportunity to replace Mr Cunningham as the Senator from the Tarheel State.  The seat would remain with the party and the action would be a big step in healing the distrust that Mr Cunningham has incurred.  Furthermore, it would demonstrate a level of responsibility that has never been exhibited before, especially as compared to the current White House.

As my mother in NC said when the news broke, "He broke my heart."  He needs to mend that now.
