Caerleon Skate Park

Caerleon Skate Park

In Caerleon there are no real leisure activities or locations for young adults outside of the Rugby and Football pitches. This means many kids are left to their own devices and can lead to anti-social activity.
With the immense spotlight on skateboarding at the 2020 Olympics we would like to see a skate park built in Caerleon. This would provide our youth with a fun, healthy outlet and also broaden their sporting horizons.
In order to fund the skate park there was a Section 106 Agreement between Redrow and Newport City Council (NCC) as part of developing the new housing at the old University of Wales site. There is a total of £2.1m of '106 money' that was given to NCC, with £1.1 reserved for education and some earmarked for a children's play area in Caerleon. This leaves a good bit left over and we should have a say in how some of the remaining money is used as the housing development directly affects our area. So the money needs to be spent in our community.
Let's petition the Newport City Council to use this money to benefit our young adults and build them a skate park! Who know's? We could be watching one of Caerleon's own win a medal at the next Olympics.
