Limit IVC Filters to Short-Term Use ONLY!

Inferior Vena Cava filters, or IVC filters act as a cage inside your arteries to trap blood clots.

IVC filters can trap blood clots before they travel to vital organs and cause life-threatening complications. They were developed as an alternative to blood thinners for patients at increased risk for pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots.

An IVC Filter should be a temporary device, yet they are being left in patients for years.

40% or more of the IVC filters in patients will fracture within 5-6 years. 86% of those result in serious injuries, often worse than what the filter was put in to prevent in the first place.

In 2014, the FDA warned that an IVC filter should be removed within 29-54 days after the risk of pulmonary embolism, DVT or blood clots subsides. Yet IVC Filter Manufacturers, such as Bard Peripheral Vascular, are still advertising this product to be permanent.

These medical device manufactures should revise their safety requirements to reflect the warnings of the FDA and limit the IVC filter to short-term use ONLY.

Please join us in demanding that these manufacturers change the IVC Filters to short-term use ONLY.
