 Thorn Acute Day Unit in Camden helped me immeasurably when I had a severe breakdown in 2013. I was suicidally depressed and this service quite literally kept me alive. I will never forget the dedication and hard work of the amazing staff team many of whom had been there for decades and have huge compassion and great expertise. The programme of art, music, dance and drama plus yoga, acupuncture and relaxation combined with one to one keywork sessions with support groups helped the severely mentally unwell including myself begin to slowly recover from their acute illness. The onsite clinical team that included a psychiatrist and RMNs provided regular assessment, support and monitoring of medication which is vital for the acutely sick. Jules Thorn was the only remaining acute day service in Camden after the closure of Daleham Gardens aprox three years ago. At a time when the need for mental health support for the severely unwell has risen exponentially due to Covid 19 I implore C&I NHS Trust to reconsider this closure that was done with zero consultation after what we were initially told was a temporary closure due to lockdown. I know personally a huge amount of people that have been helped immeasurably by Jules Thorn. There are not enough hospital beds to accommodate all that need them and an acute day unit is an absoluyely vital part of Camdens mental health services at a time of massively increased need.
