Save Mullumbimby's Fig

This petition had 1,710 supporters

Hello residents of Mullumbimby and the greater Byron Shire,
This petition has been created in response to the Byron Shire Council's decision to remove the beautiful fig tree at the end of Station Street (next to Dinosaurs Preschool) to make way for the subdivision of this vacant block of land.

Whilst not opposed to the sale and development of the land, we are very much opposed to the destruction of this majestic tree and with the lack of public consultation on the matter.
This tree does not need to be removed for the development to go ahead. The council had initially decided to save it.  This decision was then reversed as the council decided more money could be obtained from the sale of the land if the tree were removed.

We feel this tree will only enhances the visual presentation of the proposed development.
This tree is one of few left in Mullumbimby town centre of such age and presence.
This tree is habitat and haven to many species of animals and rare bird life.
This tree does not 'belong' to council. They do not own it. It belongs to all of us and as a community we can demand its preservation.

Please, if you appreciate the beauty of this tree and value its existance, and if you are passionate about public consultation and preserving the remaining natural beauty of our town then please add your voice to the chorus to save Mullum's fig tree.
You can do this by
1. simply signing this petition and passing it on to family, friends and colleagues   2. by logging on to the "Save Mullumbimby's Fig" Facebook page                       3. emailing or phone directly the Byron Shire Councillors at
4. emailing or phoning Ken Grainger - General Manager of the Council.

Lets just see if we can save her....
