Merimbula needs a new Skatepark !
Why this petition matters

Hi my name is Pete O'Keefe and I'm the President of the Sapphire Coast Skatepark Association.
Merimbula Skatepark has been due for an upgrade for a very long time and is completely rundown and basically unusable.
When it rains it fills with water ( heavy rain it disappears completely ) and does not drain. The Skatepark is far too small for the amount of kids wanting to use the skatepark and has deteriorated beyond well beyond repair with council recognising it is due for renewal.
BVSC staff have completed a community consultation and recommendation for a new skatepark, however the Council have no money available to allocate toward's the project. The consultation resulted in over 75% voting for the new skatepark to be located at FORD OVAL merimbula.
Over the last 4 years we have held over 20 meetings, consulted with councillors, council staff, many other local organisations and have submitted two Community Project Proposals with NO outcome or commitment from our local council.
Without in principal support by BVSC it is extremely difficult to secure the state or federal funding required to fund the park.
Local businesses, community members, clubs and other organisations have already donated over 20K to pay for concept design.
The new skatepark has been overwhelmingly supported by community members, business owners, local sporting clubs, Merimbula Tourism INC and the Merimbula Chamber of Commerce
The addition of a new skatepark at Ford Oval will not only meet the obvious needs of local kids and the many holiday makers, it will also be a huge value add to many businesses in the local and surrounding area. There is already a great kids playground there along with toilets, shops, accommodation and direct beach access.
The SCSA are committed to see the project go ahead and give our kids and visitors a decent modern skatepark that would also benefit the rest of the community significantly.
By signing this petition you are sending a strong message to those in positions that the current situation isn't acceptable.
