Howdy! My name is Bernice Mifsud and I am currently a junior at Saline High School. For the past few weeks, I have been working on an assignment for my British Literature class that involves creating a website for a topic of our choosing.

I decided to choose the topic of our environment. I chose this based around an idea I came up with while talking with my dad over dinner one day.

What if I were to introduce the idea of a bottle-return-esque way of recycling paper grocery bags?

I think we all know of the concept of bringing your own reusable bags when you go shopping, but that can be a difficult task to maintain for many people, myself included. So, I suggest a system in which when you go shopping and need a bag, you would make a 10 cent deposit (like you would a bottle) and if you bring that bag to be recycled, you get that 10 cents back.

Each year, 14 million trees are cut down to produce paper grocery bags alone. If we were to begin instilling this system in smaller grocery stores, then, hopefully, larger chain stores may follow suit and we can help reduce that nasty big number of trees cut down for grocery bags.
