Improved Town Bus Service for Navan, Co. Meath

Navan Town has been increasing in population exponentially over the past twenty years. Most of the new residents are located in areas surrounding the town within an approx. 6km radius. However, it is only in past ten years that a town bus service has begun and this has had little increase in service or frequency despite yet more houses being built in the surrounding townlands.
The area of Johnstown has far surpassed the old village of Johnstown and now stretches from Kilcarn on the East side to the Boyne Road on the West side. To date, the bus service available to this area and others have been far from adequate and have deteriorated considerably in the past six months.
With upwards of 35,000 residents in Navan town and surrounds, there is an urgent need for an adequate bus service to meet demand, operating seven days a week and not Monday - Friday as it does currently. This would not only facilitate workers but also those visiting the hospital and utilising the retail and hospitality services in the town.
There is also a need for the service to increase frequency to accommodate school times for those within the 3km zone who do not qualify for school transport and to extend up to 11 pm at night to allow for late workers to get home and those socialising, gain access to the town.
We as the town of Navan ask, as have our public representatives, that Bus Eireann provide a proper, reliable and upgraded local bus service for our residents without delay. With four housing estates newly opened or scheduled to open in the coming months in Johnstown and more and more residents coming of age to be able to travel independently, there is an urgent duty to cater to the needs of those travelling.
