I visit Burnley on a regular basis and have many friends there who think the delapidated state of the theatre is a tragedy.

Having been involved in local amateur
theatre myself, and as a member of a Heritage group I know the importance
of preserving our past for future generations and I gladly support
this venture to save this grand old
building, which had become a cinema the last time I sat in it, in the 70s.

As someone born in Burnley and working in the creative industries, it seems to me this is exactly the kind of project that should get full support from the council - and from anyone else interested in the future of Burnley. The figures show that creative industries continue to outgrow the rest of the UK economy. They generate more than £84 billion for the country each year and account for 2.8 million jobs - with an employment rate increasing at more than double the national average. Doesn't it make sense that the creative industries, culture - and the Empire Theatre in particular - could play a major role in the regeneration of the town? It's a wonderful opportunity to invest in future prosperity and promote a positive image of Burnley.
