Reduce the use of single-use packaging and silverware in the DTBHS Cafeteria
Why this petition matters
Most meals provided by the BHS cafeteria come in non-recyclable packaging and often with unnecessary plastic components (such as straws or spoons in plastic packaging). This results in increased food and plastic waste as every pre-packaged meal's components are not necessarily wanted by the student. By serving items individually, we can reduce both unnecessary food waste and plastic waste that our school produces. Additionally, by improving our use of disposable silverware, we can reduce the amount of plastic that we send to the landfill ('compostable' silverware is no longer accepted in compost by Chittenden Solid Waste District). We ask that the BHS administration reconsider the current use of single-use plastics and consider serving breakfast items individually rather than in prepackaged sets
