Increase Phone Time For Federal Inmates

In most federal prisons, the inmates get 300 phone minutes per month that either we (the families of inmates) pay for or the inmates themselves pay for via their very low paying jobs. 300 minutes may sound like a lot to most people, but trust me-it isn't!!! I personally have a loved one who is incarcerated and between me, his mom, dad and brother we all barely get to speak to him. One or two 15 minute phone calls a week. That doesn't include other family members (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc.) or even friends. I believe it is essential to a prisoner's rehabilitation to be able to maintain their personal relationships with the people on the outside who love them. Especially since they are in a place where it's very easy to get bored, or associate with the wrong people and get into even more trouble. I say, if we are willing to pay for phone time they should get as much as we are willing to pay for without a limit on minutes they can use per month. I urge you to sign this petition to get the Bureau of Prisons to increase the alotted amount of phone minutes per month for federal inmates.
