Westport and Surrounds are constantly vulnerable to the threat of flooding from the Buller River - This is nothing new but the recent Flood events have brought it to the fore and the people of the District want to see the Flood Walls built as quickly as possible - No more talkfest - No more repeated consultation or time wasting proving what we already know. 

We the undersigned hereby request that the BDC does everything possible to support and promote the rapid installation of the Buller River Flood Walls, according to the proven specifications obtained by the WCRC. We want a set timeline for construction and regular updates on progress provided to the community.

We request that both Councils lobby Central Government for special funding for the wall, in light of the seriousness of the threat and the extraordinary circumstances brought to light in the July 2021 Event. We want action on the ground now  - Meetings do not save lives.
