BUILDING BETTER LEARNERS - AN END TO ALL AFTERNOON LESSONS IN SCHOOLS
Why this petition matters
AN END TO AFTERNOON LESSONS IN SCHOOLS
Over the years, there has be a shocking decrease in the academic performances of learners both in the primary and secondary schools in the country.
Some of the things which have contributed to this decline are THE PERSONALITIES, QUALITIES AND TEACHING METHODOLOGIES of teachers in our schools. As we all know, NO NATION CAN RISE ABOVE THE QUALITIES OF ITS TEACHERS.
Imagine a learner who has problems with these three key things (personality, quality and teaching methodology) about a teacher, how do we expect such child to have an improved learning experience when the same teacher who teaches him during normal school hour will still be the one to teach him during extra classes. If the teacher has performed his duties, there should be no need for the extra classes EXCEPT teachers and school owners are only looking for ways to get more money from parents; afterall, parents pay for the extra classes.
If there is need for extra classes for any learner, let it be outside that same school that could not perform the magic during normal school hours.
By this petition, I hope to call on all relevant persons and agencies in charge of our educational system to make it mandatory for all schools (public and private) to close daily by 2pm. Any child who needs extra classes should be registered in coaching centres outside the schools where such child can be exposed to the personalities, qualities and teaching methodologies of other teachers. Meanwhile, such coaching centres must not have more than two teachers from any particular school. No school owner and or his close relatives must own any coaching centre.
Most of us who passed through schools in the 1980s and 1990s can attest to the importance of those coaching centres where we learnt more academic ideas.
We can, by this step start a conscious attempt to rescue our Primary and Secondary education systems from the near collapse.
