Why this petition matters

Started by Russ Buchanan

In May of 2022, Tallahassee Indoor Sports (the only roller hockey rink in North Florida/South Georgia) closed, and hundreds of local and regional youth and adult players are now looking for a new place to play.  The boards (180x80 with built in futsal goals), plastic tile flooring, scoreboards, and bleachers were all donated to Leon County in the hopes that the County would put them up in the (to be constructed) Northeast Park.

Beyond roller hockey, local soccer/futsal, lacrosse, roller derby, FSU Ice & Roller Hockey, and bike polo organizations have all made extensive use of the rink, and would similarly benefit from its reconstruction.

The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to Leon County and/or other interested parties and stakeholders the demand for the reassembly of this facility.  Similar facilities exist in other cities throughout the Southeast, and are generating large recreational and financial impacts for the communities who have built them.

Obviously, even with the substantial donation of equipment, construction of the facility is going to require actual dollars.  The petition organizers are pledging $1 per signature on this petition towards construction costs of a new public facility (cap of $25,000).

Please share this amongst the Tallahassee community.

Sincerely,

Danielle & Russ Buchanan
