Change cannot happen unless we make our opinion clear. This may seem like a small issue to some, however if we don’t exercise our voice in the little things we can never expect to make change on larger issues.

For the last 4 years, Town Neck parking lot has been closed to the public starting between 3-5pm on July 4th. In 2021, the lot was locked beginning at 5pm. This is a public beach, paid for and maintained by taxpayer dollars. It is being closed against the will of a significant population of the Town of Sandwich, and we would like to make our opinion clear on this decision.

Issues with parking at Town Neck arose in years past before lines were painted in the lot. There are now clear parking lines painted, and it is perfectly reasonable to have increased police patrol to ensure no double parking, as well as monitor beach activity. Paying police detail to guard a beach gate, locked to prevent citizens from using a parking lot they have full rights to is a waste of town resources and a misapplication of town authority.

We are asking the town, simply, to leave the beach open for the 4th of July —- as it is open every single other day of the year— and trust our Sandwich PD to protect our citizens and town resources the same way they do all other days of the year.

Additionally we would like to remind the town that it is their duty to act in the interest of the entirety of the citizen population, not certain groups in certain residential areas who may find it inconvenient that their home is in the vicinity of a public beach.
