We the people of Haddenham and other users of Stanbridge Rd and Woodways are deeply concerned at the accident record of Clay Corner junction. We call upon Buckinghamshire County Council to review the road safety design of Clay Corner junction (Stanbridge Rd/Woodways - opposite the Health Centre) and implement effective road layout improvements that will significantly reduce the high incidence of accidents. Traffic approaches this junction along Stanbridge Rd North with many vehicles not realising they must give way until the last minute. There is a similar problem with the Stanbridge Rd South approach and vehicles approaching along the Lower Road often exceed the 30mph limit, having just passed the speed sign from a 60mph area. A number of accidents and near misses have occurred at this junction, mainly due to drivers not aware of the need to give way. Accidents have included a car smashing through a fence and landing in a garden (a lucky escape for the occupants of the house) and a motor cyclist missing the junction and breaking a leg in 2 placed in an accident We call upon TfB to recognise there is a significant risk of someone being killed at this location and to make changes that will reduce this risk. Solutions have been suggested that would prevent drivers seeing an apparently open road in front of them with signage/roadside furniture or a reconfiguration of the junction.
