Petition Closed

We, the Scouting community of Silver Spring, MD urge the members of Pack 275 and our surrounding community to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy. The leadership of pack 275, chartered by Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring, MD, have decided to start a formal petition against the BSA anti-gay policy.

In a survey of pack parents, 86% of the respondents said that they oppose the ban. We invite you to share your opinion with the greater scouting community, in hopes that BSA will renounce this discriminatory policy, and become inclusive of all boys and families.

Our pack--BSA Pack 275--is an open and affirming pack. We welcome ALL scouts and all families.

This petition has been created on behalf of the leadership of Pack 275. (petition set up by Liz Caron, mom to Cole (Bear) and Luke (Webelos I))

Service organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the 4H Club all welcome gay kids and adult leaders. Also, the American Medical Association has opposed the Boy Scouts' anti-gay policy, saying it could cause "psychological trauma" in youth.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we cannot support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!
