According to "Why College Is More Dangerous for LGBTQ Students", an article written by Adrienne Green and Alia Wong in The Atlantic, LGBT college students are  often harrassed or bullied in the school setting, "about three in five LGBT students had been sexaully harrassed at school," (Green and Wong). This is one of the reasons which having gender-netrual restrooms would have a positive impact in our college environment.

Having gender-neutral restrooms would provide a safe space for all students on campus. It is important for all students to feel respected as well as safe, and having a restroom which encompasses that is pretty important. No student should have to fear going to the bathroom while at school, facing other students who may not understand whether someone is transitioning or understand that persons identity can lead to an uncomfortable situation. By providing a gender-neutral option, this eliminates possible confusion and leads to an ultimately safer environment.

This solution could be as simple as all bathrooms only having stalls and marked differently outside, it does not need to be a large construction project to remake schools. As a cis-gendered college student at K-State, this problem has not been one that has necessarily crossed my mind or inconvienced me previously. However, that does not mean that this is a situation that should be taken lightly. And as a cis-gendered individual it is within my responsibilities to stand up for others.
