Medical Cannabis for Ulcerative Colitis

The Illinois Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act has been helping patients with painful and debilitating conditions since it was introduced on August 1, 2013. The current number of medical cannabis patients sits around 7,000. There are around 40 conditions that qualify someone to receive a card.
Among the conditions is Crohn’s Disease. I’m sure we all know someone with Crohn’s and know the struggles that they go through. Perhaps you were diagnosed yourself (if that’s the case I urge you to try medical cannabis legally!) However, I have Ulcerative Colitis, which is not on the list of conditions. Ulcerative Colitis is very similar to Crohn’s and one can even be misdiagnosed with the other. Like Crohn’s, UC can cause inflammation, extreme pain, diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite, and possibly colon cancer from damage to the large intestine.
My particular case of UC isn’t as severe as some people I know personally. I’m lucky to have been in remission most of the time since diagnosis. However, there are people that have been, at one time or another, disabled by UC. This petition isn’t just for me. I would like anyone with UC who wants a better quality of life to have access to this wonderful, natural medicine. Not only can cannabis help with the pain caused by UC, but CBD oil can also help reduce inflammation and have a preventative effect against colon cancer.
Thank you for reading and please take a moment to sign my petition.
