Keep Beeston's Dovecote Lane cycling friendly

Keep Beeston's Dovecote Lane cycling friendly
Why this petition matters
Dovecote Lane is currently used by many cyclists young and old as a quiet and safe way to avoid the busy Queens Road/Station Road junction. The route offers safe access to Beeston canal via Cycle Route 6, which then gives traffic free access to Nottingham city centre.
We see many people using Dovecote Lane for their commute in and out of work year round. It's also heavily used by families and children cycling to schools
This route is now under threat due to a proposed new access point for a new housing development. This would massively increase the amount of vehicles using Dovecote Lane. With 70 new dwellings proposed this would double the number of dwellings serviced by what is by modern standards a narrow road.
This traffic would mainly be during peak hours when the route is heavily used by commuters on their way to work, and children on their way to school.
The government wants to promote cycling for health and environmental reasons, removing safe and quieter cycle routes like this will work against that.
We are not opposing the development itself. We believe that there is a better access solution available via another route which can better handle the extra traffic and continue to allow cyclists to safely use Dovecote Lane
