Little of the new build in Beeston town centre, or elsewhere in Broxtowe, is of any character or quality. We should save those buildings that do bestow some pride and personality - especially a public asset like this one.
We object most strongly to the proposals by Broxtowe Borough Council to demolish either in part or completely the historic 1936 Town Hall and call on them to seek a solution that results in the preservation of the original external and internal architectural features.
Broxtowe have offered three very narrow options in their consultation form available to fill in online until the 15th January 2018 here: https://selfservice.broxtowe.gov.uk/renderform.aspx?t=126&k=4198429A9C61A5E297D6EAF940277F9E95414413 two of which involve demolition.
Much of Beeston's character was lost in the 1960s with the unwise demolition of characterful historic architecture - the Beeston and District Civic Society along with the wider community desperately want to prevent similar happening again so please do sign!
