Association of Brownsville Educators started this petition to Brownsville ISD and

WE, Brownsville ISD employees, have worked diligently and gone above and beyond to adjust and coordinate all types of learning, whether it be in person, hybrid, online or any combination thereof, to ensure all curriculum goals are met.

Whereas WE, in our different positions / roles, continue to identify and develop methods to addresses students’ needs, from physiological assistance (providing meals) to social emotional learning support.

Whereas WE acknowledge that all school employees play an instrumental role in the education process when they help provide a safe and reliable school environment for the students.

On behalf of all BISD employees, WE petition the Brownsville ISD Superintendent and School Board of Trustees to consider and approve a 3% increase on hiring table for teachers and librarians, 5% equity increase to ALL certified employees and a minimum of $1.50 more per hour for classified employees, EXCEPT Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez.

In addition to the raises, a retention stipend of a minimum of $1,000 for ALL employees at the end of current contract year (June 2021), a minimum of $1,000 in December 2021 for ALL employees, a minimum of $1,000 for all teachers who complete the Reading Academy and a minimum of $1,000 for all high risk/high exposure (nurses, Special Ed employees, counselors, food service, custodians, maintenance cleaning/disinfecting crew), EXCEPT Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez.

Whereas Brownsville ISD received $185,350,977 dollars under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III (ESSER III) Fund.

Whereas Dr. Rene Gutierrez stated that “money is not an issue”.  Whereas funds provided will not be supplanted at the state level and that new funds will be use as a respond to the pandemic and to address student-learning loss as a result of COVID-19.

Whereas Dr. Rene Gutierrez stated “there isn’t anything we can’t accomplish together.”  We are all in this together and we have continued our dedicated service and commitment with Brownsville ISD.

Show us, Brownsville ISD employees, how much we are valued and appreciated by helping us rebuild our lives as we see the end to this pandemic.
