Shannon Shaffer started this petition to Brookville Area School District Board of School Directors

The Brookville Administration and School Board are seriously considering not filling the elementary band teacher position after Royce Hetrick retires at the end of this school year. As many of you know, the Brookville band has always proven to be a program of high quality and it caters to a large percentage of the student population. Cutting this position would mean that the band program would be operated by one director - adding an additional 170 elementary students to the 130 students at the Jr./Sr. High level. There is simply not enough time in the day to offer 300 students the quality music education that Brookville has provided for decades. It would create a definite loss in quantity of students and the overall quality of the band program in grades 4-12. Many school districts are facing budget cuts right now and unfortunately, the arts are always the first to go. We NEED the arts and music education now more than ever, so please do what you can, at a local level, to ensure this position is secure. Please sign the petition so we can show your signature at the school board meeting on Monday, June 15 at 7:00 in the Hickory Grove Gymnasium!
