My name is Cassandre Davilmar. I am a resident of Weeksville, homeowner, and the owner of Lakou Cafe, a Haitian American eatery and event space on Utica Ave.

Weeksville is a beautiful and vibrant neighborhood in present-day Crown Heights with a rich history. It is a historic neighborhood founded by free African Americans in 1838. It is home to the Hunterfly Houses, Saint Johns Recreational Center, vibrant Utica Ave, Lincoln Terrace Park and Eastern Parkway!

Unfortunately, this beautiful neighborhood is filled with liter and very little trash cans. Utica Ave between Atlantic Ave and Eastern Parkway has no enclosed trash cans. Additionally, Saint Johns Ave between Troy Ave and Buffalo Ave has no enclosed trash cans as well. These are bustling commercial corridors that thousands of people pass through daily. Additionally, this is a huge transportation hub for multiple bus lines (B46, B43, B45, B15, B65) and train lines (3, 4, A, C). There is no reason why an intersection with 4 bus stops and is 2 blocks away from the subway would have no trash cans. It is completely unacceptable.

Weeksville has been neglected for way too long by District 35, District 36 and District 41. Our neighborhood needs a change, and we need you all to help keep our neighborhood clean with more designated trash cans and trash enclosures. Our dignity depends on this. Adding 30 to 40 enclosed trash would be a great start!
