In June of 2017, 22 Suffolk County residents died from opioid overdoses within just 48 hours. One to two people die per week in Suffolk County from this opioid epidemic. In 2016, nearly 500 Long Islanders were killed by overdoses. Suffolk County holds the highest rate of overdose deaths in New York State.

Seafield is an organization providing inpatient and outpatient services to Long Islanders who suffer from the disease of addiction. Seafield proposed a plan to buy St. Ursula Center in Blue Point, New York, and turn it into a 76 bed, inpatient treatment facility for women with drug/alcohol addictions.

It is crucial that we stand together to support Seafield and advocate for this new facility to be opened. We must demand the best services and treatment for our community members and Long Islanders. Let us use our actions to show that we support treatment and recovery. People with addictions are part of our Long Island communities and we believe they deserve to receive treatment here and now. Let's stand together and act to ensure that the Blue Point Seafield facility is not only opened, but welcomed with love, warmth and respect.
