Every year, seniors at East look forward to being able to express a final thought to the student body through their senior quotes in the yearbook. After the most turbulent years of our lives, we find out that we no longer have this privilege because the school believes it is too controversial. Instead of laying ground rules so that the students still have the right to express themselves, the school removed the section entirely. This weekend, Yearbook asked students to pick between three other options, but those options are significantly more restrictive than having a quotes section.

Students deserve to have a platform where they can openly express their thoughts before graduating. Even if there are regulations on the quotes, that’s still better than these new options. This new system is unfair, not only for the class of 2022, but also for every class after us. Bring back Senior Quotes!!
