Important update on the Albemarle Road cycleway and Westgate Road bothBridge- Councillors have ignored Officers' recommendation to re-open Westgate Road both ways with part time lights so we are stuck with increased pollution and congestion along school walking routes Bromley Road, at Shortlands and Beckenham Junction so strongly recommend lobbying your local Councillors

Unfortunately, this is not a victory as hoped because the Council is keeping Westgate Road Bridge closed from Albemarle Road. Therefore, the traffic increases at Shortlands, Bromley Road and Beckenham Junction causing heavy pollution. The Bridge needs to re-open to provide relief from congestion and we are already seeing traffic jams again. More lobbying is needed to protect air quality on Bromley Road and the environment outside local schools worsened by this Council policy on ludicrous road closures.

Council deadline for consultation on this scheme is 3rd March. Current one-way system increases speeds and is dangerous with some cyclists ignoring signs and going against flow of traffic on Westgate Bridge. Cycleway otherwise barely used. Congestion outside schools will increase again as pupils go back as traffic has been forced onto Bromley Road and outside Harris Green Primary School

Urgent! You can now have your say to overturn the Council scheme on www.bromley.gov.uk/consultations and help restore two way traffic and remove cycle lane. Let's keep up the pressure.

The one-way system over Westgate Road bridge is also very dangerous as cyclists are ignoring the one way restriction and crossing against the
flow of the traffic. Council have been made aware as there could be a bad accident. The two-way system needs restoring with improved road markings. Council continue to ignore strong opposition to scheme and have failed to consult widely. A legal challenge is needed.

Increased traffic on other neighbouring roads as a result of this ill thought out waste of money which means more pollution, If its not broke, don't fix it!

Bromley Council's consultation on this scheme has been shocking and new consultation proposed does not include affected organisations, residents in Foxgrove Avenue, parts of Bromley Road, Ravensbourne Avenue, Downs Hill, The Drive. Cycleway is not being used and residents are being disadvantaged with longer journeys and more pollution. High Street also affected by more traffic re-routing and cutting through the Drive. Beckenham Green Harris Academy NOT consulted in first consultation along with other schools hit by pollution and congestion. Needs a legal challenge to overturn the one-way system and cycleway.

I bet they'll say that traffic has improved... without referencing the significant drop off in traffic due to the lockdown. Total madness. I have seen a bike going down Albemarle Road once, just once, since this crazy layout was implemented. Foxgrove is the route cyclists take.

It is an ill-considered plan which causes even greater congestion through numerous already busy roads, and makes the junction at Albermarle/Rectory/High St/ Southend Rd extremely dangerous
