Social isolation is a problem for both all seniors and all youth alike, despite social media. The two generations don’t mingle and are even afraid of each other. The older generation has so much to share, and the younger so much to learn.

Young immigrants often do not have access to their own grandparents who remain overseas, and therefore miss much informal guidance and acculturation to the new world they now inhabit. Meanwhile elders in  Quebec society (and other provinces) are relegated to seniors' residences or face loneliness in their own homes.

Modern society has been afflicted with the isolation-silo phenomenon for many years, and the pandemic has only worsened the situation. Cultural communities and Indigenous communities are known to have lessened the issue by intimate sharing of family spaces by both generations.

Our solution is to empower youth and seniors by enabling them to engage with each other through mentored youth-production of digital stories about our elders. Becoming life-long friends with elders by telling their story is the bond so perfected by certain societies, and now can be rebooted in our society through technology and youth creativity.
